How Do You Improve Your Vertical Jump?

More and more athletic coach and trainers are looking over the possible performance advantages that are brought by vertical jumping skills. This is particularly true in most popular team sports. No volleyball, football or basketball athlete will ever be great without doing his or her famous move- the vertical jump. The ability to jump high is actually based on the elasticity of the muscles and tendons that are found in the leg area. Without flexibility, even with exceptional leg power, a great jumper will never be able to spring high into the air and balance his or her body against the pull of gravity. Hence, increasing flexibility with leg power is the key to improving your vertical jump.

There are training programs that are specifically designed to work out vertical jumping skills. Vertical jumping exercises are usually comprised with jumping drills, weight training or weight lifting exercises and plyometrics. Usually, these training programs are customizable, making it easier for you to target you weak points in vertical jumping. But before you start doing these exercises, try to think about the following points so you can optimize the results of your vertical jump training and exercises:

o Your muscles have limits. By maximizing these limits, you can maximize the results of your exercises without suffering from injuries.

o Start small. In any physical training, you have to give your body enough time to adapt to the demands of a physical training. When you are to start your vertical jump-training, do some calf raises first as it is the simplest form of vertical jump exercise. Gradually increase the difficulty and reps of the exercises.

o Strengthen your legs. Powerful legs are common among athletes who do exceptional vertical jumps. This is another reason why you should start with calf exercises. These exercises train develop the smallest leg muscles. Then, you can try out other more dynamic exercises to bring the larger muscles to work. Spending thirty minutes walking and 5 minutes walking on your tiptoes daily should do the trick.

o Do jump drills. Doing dead jumps as fast as you can increases endurance as well as the height of your vertical jump.

o Weight jumping. Adding 5-50 pounds of weight devices to your body can increase vertical jumps. For instance, when playing basketball, try hooking a book bag or sand bag on your waist while playing around 30 minutes of rigorous basketball a day. Adding weights to your game is the most logical way to increase vertical jump.

o Don't forget to do some stretching. This aids the muscle with its recovery time. Be aware that before starting with your vertical jump training, do some stretching exercises for proper warm-up.

o Don't over train. Listen to your body. Have enough rest between workouts for best results. Remember, the body actually develops stronger muscles during the rest or recovery periods.

Increasing your vertical jump can increase your power output as an athlete. It is even considered as one of the most critical and important part of an athlete's physical training. By working the body in total opposition to the vertical plane of gravity, vertical jump training exercises absolutely delivers significant improvements in flexibility, leg power, strength and endurance at a much shorter time.

Massage Therapist Salary

Let's talk about the financial side of being a massage therapist, namely the massage therapist salary! This is a guide for people who are thinking about becoming a massage therapist and would like to get a picture of what a professional massage therapist earns.

For starters, I will lead you through the system at our massage school, which is typical of many massage schools around the country (the United States). First, you can expect to find yourself doing massage for free during your clinical internship, which must be completed before you can become licensed and get paid to do massage. Happily, though, we were able to receive tips and this was quite welcome as we were mostly rather poor students. Upon graduation and licensure, we were able to continue working in the student clinic. This can be a big plus when you are starting out- for one, you are already familiar with the clinic environment. You know where everything is- massage oils, sheets, pillow cases, cleaning supplies.

Also, if your unpaid internship has been going well, you have built up something of a clientele. So now, whereas before you were getting tips only, now you are getting paid ( an hour in our case) PLUS tips. It's a nice jump in wages while doing the exact same work. I would recommend this to newly licensed practitioners if their school offers such an arrangement. The pay is low compared to the an hour charged by therapists in their own private practice, but keep in mind that running your own practice involves considerable effort and expenses, and that in almost all cases you have to do a good job of marketing yourself in order to get clients. This may be something you want to hold off on until you get more experience and a better idea of how to create a successful massage practice.

Once you are licensed, the (massage) world is your oyster. The work, and hence the salary, you can expect depends on where you are located. Are you working in a spa? A hospital? Your own practice? How much do you charge/get paid? Do you work part or full time? All these (and more) factors will determine your salary. The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) reports that in 2008, a massage therapist working 15 hours a week earned an average of , 500- pretty good for working part time. AMTA also reports average hourly pay in 2008 to be .50.

A note to those of you who are considering a career in massage for the money- usually you will get clients based on the quality of your massage. If your heart is not into it, or you're just doing it to get paid, it's likely you won't succeed as a massage therapist. Massage is a field in which you can make good money, but usually only if you really like the work.

Replace GM Window Regulator

Don't pay 0-0 to Fix a broken Auto Electric Window Regulator!

How to replace your GM automobile electric window regulator and save hundreds of dollars and time:

Have you ever had to replace one of your Electric Window Regulators? You're driving along and the window suddenly drops down a few inches, or all the way down. This problem has occurred on my GM vehicles (Buick, Pontiac) so much I carry a roll of blue tape (Generally used for masking doing painting) in my trunk.

I have saved customers and myself 0's of dollars. Our publication is written for the GM automobiles.

Update. Two windows in my Buick stopped working this past week. I was able to fix them for 0's less than what the dealer quoted.

The basic steps to replacing the regulator are:

Remove the door panel. Locate the various screws holding the panel, take a screwdriver and pry the door panel off. There are plastic pins all around the door. Some will break, don't worry you can purchase new clips at an auto parts store like Auto Zone.

Don't forget to disconnect any electric connectors for the windows, power locks etc.

Once you get the door panel off, you can see the glass. Pull the glass up to the top of the doorframe, use your blue masking tape and drape it over the doorframe and both sides of the window.

The window regulator is attached to two clamps on the bottom of the window. Take out the screws. Remove the screws holding the regulator onto the doorframe. Remove the regulator and motor attached. (If your motors bad, you can just replace the motor, but I found for a few more dollars I could replace the whole regulator and motor.)

Reverse the process to install the new regulator.

Disclaimer: skateboarding can be a dangerous sport. Whenever you ride your skateboard, there's a possibility that you could get hurt. It's important that you understand this.

Also, before trying any of these fun things, wear your skateboarding equipment. Get a proper helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads, at the very least. Safety should be your number one priority as a skateboarder. Without keeping yourself safe, you're risking your ability to skate.

Skateboards are great because they can be used almost anywhere. Indoors and outdoors, up hills, down hills, and on flat ground. They're simple to use, too. Just hop on and go. Skateboarding is the ultimate freedom.

Skateboard ramps are plenty of fun. They can be made without much effort - a classic ramp is just a board stacked up on some objects. A safer alternative is to construct a ramp entirely from wood. Cut a two by four piece of wood diagonally, and nail a piece of plywood to the pieces. Instant ramp!

Street curbs are a classic object that skateboarders skate on. They're almost like a wave, if you can ride them properly. It's a lot of fun to ride up and down the street, pumping off the curbs to keep you going.

Curbs can also be like a miniature skatepark. They're perfect for practicing small tricks, and can be used as a ramp. Alternatively, you could jump from the street to the curb, using the gutter as a little mini gap.

When I was young, my friends and I made things dangerous by jumping over each other with the ramp we made. I can't recommend this, because it's just so dangerous. However, we did have lots of fun finding objects to stack, and then trying to gap those.

Another fun time I remember having as a boy is stacking up a couple of skateboards, and then doing an ollie over them. This can be turned into a game - stack up a board and jump over it. The next person to not make it over stacks their board up too. This keeps going until a winner is created

Skateboard games are lots of fun, but if you don't have friends then you can go check out your local skatepark. Not only is the skateboard park a lot of fun, but it's a great opportunity to meet people like yourself.

You can have fun with your skateboard in plenty of different ways. Don't feel like you are limited by what I've written above. Instead, use this guide as a way to think up new ideas. Always remember to wear your safety gear!
