Replace GM Window Regulator
Don't pay 0-0 to Fix a broken Auto Electric Window Regulator!
How to replace your GM automobile electric window regulator and save hundreds of dollars and time:
Have you ever had to replace one of your Electric Window Regulators? You're driving along and the window suddenly drops down a few inches, or all the way down. This problem has occurred on my GM vehicles (Buick, Pontiac) so much I carry a roll of blue tape (Generally used for masking doing painting) in my trunk.
I have saved customers and myself 0's of dollars. Our publication is written for the GM automobiles.
Update. Two windows in my Buick stopped working this past week. I was able to fix them for 0's less than what the dealer quoted.
The basic steps to replacing the regulator are:
Remove the door panel. Locate the various screws holding the panel, take a screwdriver and pry the door panel off. There are plastic pins all around the door. Some will break, don't worry you can purchase new clips at an auto parts store like Auto Zone.
Don't forget to disconnect any electric connectors for the windows, power locks etc.
Once you get the door panel off, you can see the glass. Pull the glass up to the top of the doorframe, use your blue masking tape and drape it over the doorframe and both sides of the window.
The window regulator is attached to two clamps on the bottom of the window. Take out the screws. Remove the screws holding the regulator onto the doorframe. Remove the regulator and motor attached. (If your motors bad, you can just replace the motor, but I found for a few more dollars I could replace the whole regulator and motor.)
Reverse the process to install the new regulator.
